How do I become a new patient?+
Call us at 416-927-0088, email reception@smilemail.ca or send us an appointment request. Our team will help arrange your first visit with our dentists, Dr. Michael Nightingale and Dr. Ali Lubelsky, and answer any questions you have beforehand.
How do I transfer my records from my previous dentist?+
If your previous dental office has digital records, you can request a copy and forward them to reception@smilemail.ca. If you'd prefer, we can send you an authorization form that allows us to request your records directly from your previous office.
Can my whole family become patients?+
Yes. Many of our patients come to us as a family. Whenever possible, our team can coordinate routine appointments for multiple family members around the same time, making visits easier to manage for busy households.
What should I bring to my first appointment?+
Please bring a list of any medications you're currently taking and your insurance information, if applicable. If you already have recent X-rays or dental records, you can bring them with you or send them to us ahead of your appointment.
How long should I allow for my first visit?+
For adults, a first visit usually includes about 40 minutes with the dentist for a comprehensive examination, followed by approximately one hour with the hygienist for your cleaning. Children's first visits are typically 40-60 minutes, depending on their age and what they're comfortable completing that day.
I recently had X-rays taken. Will I need new ones?+
Often, no. If your existing X-rays are recent and provide the information we need, we may be able to use them. If additional images would be helpful, we'll explain what we recommend and why.
Can I come to Chandler & Nightingale for a second opinion?+
Yes. Our dentists are happy to assess your situation, review any available records or X-rays, and offer another perspective. We'll explain what we see and discuss the options with you so you can make an informed decision about your care.
I'm nervous about going to the dentist. Can I let you know beforehand?+
Yes. Please let us know when you arrange your appointment or when you arrive. We can give you time to ask questions, take breaks when needed, and discuss options that may help make your visit more comfortable, including nitrous oxide ("laughing gas") when appropriate.
Do you offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas)?+
Yes. Nitrous oxide ("laughing gas") is available during treatment, when appropriate, to help patients who feel anxious feel more relaxed. We also use it quite often for children, to help them feel at ease at the dentist. If you think it might help, let us know when you arrange your appointment. We'll talk through whether it's a good option and allow time for any questions.
How does dental insurance work at your office?+
You pay at the time of your visit. We submit your insurance claim electronically on your behalf, and your insurer reimburses you directly, often within 24-48 hours, depending on your insurance provider. Interest-free payment plans are also available. How insurance works at our office
What does "non-assignment" mean?+
Payment is due at the time of treatment, and your insurer reimburses you directly. We submit the claim for you electronically, and reimbursement usually arrives within 24 to 48 hours.
What is a pre-determination?+
It's a request we send to your insurer before treatment, asking what your plan will cover. We send one for any major treatment, and for any treatment you'd like confirmed with your insurer first.
Do you accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?+
Yes. We accept patients covered by the CDCP. Call our office at 416-927-0088 and we can explain how your coverage works.
