Sports Mouthguards
At Yonge & St. Clair.
A properly fitted mouthguard helps protect the teeth during sports and physical activity. We provide custom mouthguards made to fit comfortably and securely over your teeth.

Protecting your teeth
Protection that's made to fit.
Sports mouthguards help absorb and distribute forces that might otherwise injure the teeth, lips, cheeks or other structures of the mouth.
Unlike an over-the-counter mouthguard that is designed to fit a wide range of people, a custom mouthguard is made specifically for your teeth. The goal is secure protection that stays in place and is comfortable enough to wear consistently.

Who should consider a sports mouthguard?
A mouthguard is worth considering for activities where there is a risk of contact, falls or impact to the face and mouth. That includes many organized sports as well as recreational activities where dental injuries can occur.

Contact sports
Hockey, football, rugby, lacrosse, basketball and other sports involving player contact.
Combat sports
Boxing, martial arts and other activities where impact to the face is possible.
Sports with falls or projectiles
Activities such as baseball, softball, skateboarding and similar sports can also put the teeth at risk.
Children and teenagers
Young athletes can benefit from dental protection too, although growing mouths may require the fit to be reassessed over time.
Common questions
Common questions about sports mouthguards.
Why choose a custom mouthguard instead of one from a store?+
A custom mouthguard is made to fit your teeth rather than relying on a generic shape or a boil-and-bite fit. A secure, comfortable fit can make the mouthguard easier to keep in place and more practical to wear consistently during sports.
Which sports require a mouthguard?+
Requirements vary by sport, league and organization. Even when a mouthguard is not mandatory, it may still be worth considering when an activity involves contact, falls, projectiles or a meaningful risk of impact to the mouth.
Do children need custom sports mouthguards?+
Children who participate in activities with a risk of dental injury can benefit from a mouthguard. Because their teeth and jaws are still developing, the fit may need to be reassessed as they grow or as their teeth change.
Can you make a mouthguard if I have braces?+
Mouthguard needs can be different when you are undergoing orthodontic treatment. If you have braces or other orthodontic appliances, we can discuss what type of protection is appropriate and coordinate with your orthodontist when needed.
How often should a sports mouthguard be replaced?+
A mouthguard should be checked periodically for changes in fit, wear or damage. Children and teenagers may need replacement more often as their teeth and jaws develop. Bring your mouthguard to a dental visit if you're unsure whether it still fits properly.
Can I wear the same mouthguard for several sports?+
Potentially, provided it continues to fit properly and is appropriate for the activities involved. The important considerations are fit, condition and whether it provides suitable coverage for the sport you're playing.
