Dental Implants

Dental implants, from planning to the final crown.

Dental implants can provide a fixed way to replace missing teeth. At Chandler & Nightingale Dental, we plan your implant treatment from start to finish, work with a trusted periodontal specialist who places the implant, and design and fit the final crown.

Replacing a missing tooth

An implant replaces the support. A crown replaces the tooth.

Dental implant treatment has more than one part.

The implant itself is placed in the jaw and acts as the foundation for the replacement tooth. Once the implant is ready, a crown is connected to it to replace the visible portion of the missing tooth.

At C&ND, a trusted periodontal specialist places the implant, and we design and fit the final crown: the part of the implant you see, chew with and smile with.

Your implant treatment is coordinated across the surgical and restorative phases.

The implant pathway

Implant treatment happens in stages.

  • Assess the missing tooth or space

We evaluate the area, the surrounding teeth, your bite and your restorative needs.

  • Coordinate implant placement

When implant treatment is appropriate, placement is performed by a trusted periodontal specialist.

  • Allow the implant to become ready

The implant needs an appropriate period of healing and integration before the final crown can be completed.

  • Design and fit your crown at C&ND

Once the implant is ready, we design and fit the final crown (the implant restoration) that connects to it and replaces the visible tooth.

  • Maintain it over time

We continue to monitor the implant crown and surrounding tissues as part of your ongoing dental care.

Considering an implant

An implant is one option, not the automatic option.

Whether implant treatment makes sense depends on the location of the missing tooth, the available supporting tissues, your oral and general health, the neighbouring teeth, your bite and your treatment priorities.

Some patients may be better served by another approach. In other situations, replacing the tooth may not be necessary at all.

We start by deciding whether the tooth should be replaced and which approach makes sense, not by assuming an implant is the answer.

Your care at C&ND

We design your final crown and stay involved in your care.

Implant treatment involves both surgical and restorative expertise.

The periodontal specialist is responsible for evaluating and performing the surgical placement of the implant. Chandler & Nightingale Dental coordinates with the specialist, then designs and fits the final crown once the implant is ready.

After treatment, we continue to care for the implant crown and surrounding tissues as part of your regular dental care.

Placement is handled by the specialist; everything before and after it is coordinated through C&ND.

Ongoing care

Dental implants still need regular care.

An implant cannot develop a cavity, but the tissues around it still require ongoing care.

Regular dental examinations, professional cleanings and effective home care allow us to monitor the implant crown, the surrounding tissues and the rest of your mouth over time.

Common questions

Common questions about dental implants.

What is a dental implant?+

A dental implant is a component placed in the jaw that can support a crown or other restoration used to replace a missing tooth.

Do you place dental implants at C&ND?+

A trusted periodontal specialist places the implant. We plan your treatment, coordinate with the specialist, and design and fit the final crown once the implant is ready.

Who makes the tooth that goes on the implant?+

We do. Chandler & Nightingale Dental designs and fits the final crown (the implant restoration), the visible tooth connected to the implant after the surgical phase is complete.

How long does dental implant treatment take?+

Treatment timing varies depending on the clinical situation, the surgical phase and healing. The implant must be ready before the final crown can be completed.

Is an implant better than a bridge?+

Neither is automatically better. An implant and a dental bridge replace teeth using different forms of support, and the appropriate option depends on the surrounding teeth, supporting tissues, bite and treatment priorities.

Can an implant replace more than one tooth?+

Implant-supported treatment can sometimes replace several missing teeth. The appropriate design depends on the number and location of missing teeth and the overall restorative plan. For several or all missing teeth, bridges and removable dentures may also be part of the discussion.

Do dental implants need cleanings?+

Yes. The implant itself cannot develop decay, but the surrounding tissues and implant crown require ongoing professional and home care.

Am I a candidate for a dental implant?+

Suitability depends on several clinical and health factors. Assessment is needed to determine whether implant treatment is appropriate and what additional specialist evaluation may be required.
