Cosmetic dental care
Start with what you'd like to change.
Cosmetic dentistry can address concerns about the colour, shape, size, spacing or appearance of teeth, but the right treatment depends on what is creating the concern in the first place.
Sometimes a relatively small change is enough. Sometimes several approaches are possible. We start by understanding what you'd like to change, assessing your teeth and talking through which options make sense before deciding whether to proceed.
Cosmetic treatments
Different goals call for different approaches.

Planning cosmetic treatment
The smallest change that gets you where you want to go.
Cosmetic treatment doesn't always need to be extensive. If a simpler approach can address what is bothering you, that may be the better place to start.
We consider the health of your teeth, what you'd like to change, how much tooth structure a treatment may involve and how the result is likely to function over time. We'll explain the trade-offs between the available options so you can decide what feels appropriate for you.
Which option might fit your goal?
What are you unsatisfied with?
These are starting points, not diagnoses. The appropriate treatment depends on your teeth and what you’re hoping to change.
Planning ahead
Whitening doesn't change the colour of fillings or crowns.
Teeth whitening changes the colour of natural tooth structure. Existing fillings, crowns, veneers and other restorations do not whiten in the same way.
If you're considering whitening along with other cosmetic dental work, the order of treatment can matter. We'll help you plan the sequence so that colour can be considered appropriately.
Common questions
Common questions about cosmetic dentistry.
What is cosmetic dentistry?+
Cosmetic dentistry includes treatments intended to change the appearance of the teeth or smile. At C&ND, common cosmetic treatments include professional teeth whitening, porcelain veneers and dental bonding. The appropriate option depends on what you'd like to change and the condition of your teeth.
How do I know which cosmetic dental treatment I need?+
Start with the change you'd like to make rather than trying to choose a procedure yourself. We'll assess your teeth, discuss your goals and explain which options could address the concern, including the advantages and limitations of each.
Can cosmetic dentistry look natural?+
The goal of cosmetic treatment does not have to be a dramatic or obviously “done” smile. Treatment can be planned around your existing teeth, facial features and preferences, including relatively subtle changes when that is what you want.
Should I whiten my teeth before getting bonding or veneers?+
Sometimes. Whitening changes the colour of natural teeth but does not lighten existing bonding, veneers or crowns. If you're considering more than one cosmetic treatment, planning the sequence beforehand can help us account for the final tooth colour.
Does cosmetic dentistry damage your teeth?+
Different treatments involve different amounts of tooth alteration. Whitening does not involve removing tooth structure, while veneers generally require a different approach than bonding. We'll explain what a proposed treatment involves before you decide whether it is appropriate for you.
How long does cosmetic dental treatment last?+
That depends on the treatment, your teeth, your habits and how the restoration or result is maintained. Whitening, bonding and porcelain restorations have different maintenance and longevity considerations, which we'll discuss when reviewing your options.
Do you accept new cosmetic dentistry patients?+
